Not Going Home Today

Today was a beautiful day and I was all pumped up to leave the hospital. I had spoken with a doctor early in the morning and I was feeling better than I had in weeks and looking forward to being more active at home. I was mentally preparing myself for my next steps when I started to feel a little groggy.
I had been started on a new medication and after doing a quick Google search, I knew that I could feel lightheaded or dizzy. So, when I started to experience this I was not alarmed. I was working on my PC and continued to work until I felt I had to lie down for a few.
I was awakened by the nurse and while I could understand her; evidently I was speaking gibberish to her. She kept asking me questions and I was trying to answer but my words were not coming out right. I could see the alarm on her face and finally made out that she was asking me, “Are you okay?” Apparently, the new med had a strong affect on me. I had a rough time coming out of the fog.
Anyway, this little episode dashed my departure plan from the hospital. After a medical consult, the nurse was instructed to hold that particular medication. It took me about another hour and a half before I was clear headed enough to sit up and carry on. Hopefully, I will be home tomorrow.

Conversing with Mary in Bed One

I had a great conversation with my hospital roommate who I had been calling Bed One. I have now come to know her as Mary. She lives in the country, I am not sure just where but she is a great roommate. We have shared family stories and discovered we both love our families.
It seems we are both outspoken when it comes to standing up for doing the right thing. Mary is in her sixties and unfortunately has to have a double bypass. She says she is nervous about her surgery and doesn’t want to have a lot of friends and family around waiting while she is under the knife. Her belief is that it will be stressful for them to wait around for hours. Her concern for others comes through in nearly every conversation. Her husband and daughter are enough people she says. I like Mary because she is humble, straightforward and yet adamant and I believe she will get her way.
She is a believer and has a strong connection with her church. She tells her family “it’s in God’s hands.” She talks incessantly about her nephews and her daughter whom she calls her ‘angel’. I spoke briefly with her daughter and told Mary that you can feel her caring radiating from her spirit. Her daughter is a teacher and you can tell she is a caregiver. Her love for her family almost mirrors my own.
Mary told me she has three very close friends who she gets together with and plays Bingo. She calls these women her sisters. I know she will come out of this surgery successful but I am asking those who pray to pray for a full recovery for her and a great future for her daughter.
